Easy to use and very sturdy
I live this child gate. I used one when my daughter was little. Inow use them for my business. I own a dog daycare. I especially love that it doesn’t have to be attached to one place, you can move it wherever you need it. I find this gate to be the easiest and most convenient baby gate on the market.

Safety 1st Baby Gates
The Safety 1st Baby Gates is excellent and easy to install keeping your dogs/pups safe in a room while you are gone. The gate is sturdy and open/swing both ways. It also has a lock.

Good gate, but hard to open at first
Seems like a solid gate. The bad thing is the instructions are locked between the two panels. The unlock position is only for quick removal from a doorway. To slide the gate open: pull the handle up to the unlock position. Hold the side button in and pull the handle up to the double arrows. It should now slide.

Absolutely recommend
After getting a different brand gate that was flimsy, decided to stick with Safety First brand since we already have one in the house, works well, very sturdy.

Can use this gate anywhere!
Just what I needed! It’s easy to adjust so it fits most any door way. I also find it easy to take it in and out, but a lot of times I just step over it. And added bonus was I was able to close the door while keeping the baby gate installed. It’s also very secure as my baby likes to pull up on it. I wanted something that was flexible that I could move to different rooms as needed (most of the baby gates now are permanent installation). The flexibility makes this a great travel gate as well.

Awesome gate!
Excellent gate! I almost didn’t order it, but it was the only one of it’s kind that I could find. The reviews that say it’s difficult to use made me apprehensive, however…! The first step in sizing the gate WAS difficult to figure out. You’ll need to press the button on the SIDE of the handle (not the top button) and – here’s the hard part – set the gate on a railing so that only half of it is on the railing. You will want to have the other half hanging off of the railing. This is for leverage. Set the gate onto the rainling (or countertop) so that the handle portion is on the railing facing away from you. Now, think of sliding the hanging side down! Except that you’ll have to push it down really hard and it will make a loud horrible noise, as it’s ratcheting through the settings! Press until you estimate the total gate width is just a little short of your opening. Set the gate into the opening to see if it fits. Now the rest is easy! Press the button on TOP of the handle, pulling the whole handle upwards slide the gate into the opening. It should be just a little loose (half inch or so). Press the handle all the way down. It’s now set! After this, you can press the button on the top of the handle, pull the whole handle up, and it will loosen so you’ll be able to take the gate off. Your setting stays the same! Awesome!

I’d hate to have a child upstairs and this at the foot of the stairs and have an emergency.
I bought this gate to keep the dogs on the floor that I’m on. It’s going back unless somebody can give me hints on how to efficiently open and close the darned thing. It must have taken about 15 minutes or more of trying to lift the handle beyond the unlocked icon. I finally got it by trying to stabilize the gate with my legs and using two hands to hold the release down while giving the handle a hard pull because at that point, I didn’t care if I broke the darned thing. Then, I couldn’t even get the gate to slide because some genius at the factory thought it would be smart to put the hardware inside the gate. The bag of hardware kept jamming the two panels so I couldn’t get the pieces to slide. I had to get a spatula to hold the gate with one hand while I used the other to direct the spatula to push them out. Of course, that was after my hand, which isn’t huge, got stuck for a bit. Then, I took it to the bottom of the stairs to attach it and gave up after more wasted time. Maybe the piece needs to be used or oiled or something but I could not try to slide the panels and secure it between the opening. I had to practically stand on my head to see if the handle slid down, locking the panels, which it did more than once. I don’t have the patience for this. So I’m sending it back.I’m am pretty mechanically inclined and do small repairs around the house but this thing was a PITA. I would have rated it no stars but I didn’t want anybody to think I forgot to do that section but 1 is far too high a rating for the piece that I got.

Doesn’t grip that well, disappointed
I have an old FisherPrice pressure gate (30+ years old) that I used with my kids and have now gotten out for my grandkids. I do put it at the top of the stairs; I always supervise the kids there but the placement is pretty reliable unless a kid tries to intentionally shake it with some force. I could lift the gate out and replace it with one hand and the gate width is locked in place, so it would be ready to go the next time you need it. Of course that item is no longer available for purchase. We have since built an outdoor deck and I needed an additional gate out there. I don’t want to permanently install one, and this was the closest to my old gate. This product has been, on balance, a disappointment. It is a pressure gate, but you have to use both hands to place it in an opening, and the procedure is, IMO, awkward to do. You also cannot lock the width of the gate in place. And, I don’t know why, but the pressure pads do not grip side walls or posts as well as my old gate. It does not take much pushing to displace the installed gate. I can forgive everything else, but this last point makes the gate very unreliable. I do use it as it visually keeps toddlers from heading to the stairs, and prevents a child from tripping and falling down the stairs accidentally. But, if a child intentionally heads over to it, I feel compelled to go over and “spot” until they move away from the area. I will say, we used it for one of the “granddogs” this last weekend, and that worked fine.

Like any parent it got to the point where we needed to get a baby gate to keep our little one from wandering around the apartment in certain areas. It’s easy to install and extremely sturdy. Very light as well but not saying it’s easily tippable either. You just have to place it right to begin with. Though I do wish it extended a little bit more for where we needed it. That was easily fixable with a board against the wall keeping it in place. It also does come with wall mount screws and mounts if you want to mount it to a wall. We decided against it due to our damage deposit may be effected by putting holes in the wall.Overall good product none the less.

Was a little difficult to open lock/unlock because I didn’t know how to use the handle properly but once I figured it out it was really easy to use and it very sturdy once put in place. My cat easily perched on top of it without it wobbling. I did drop it once while propping it on the wall and it got a crackvin it now by the handle so the plastic isn’t that strong.

So far this gate is working great for keeping our puppy out of places. We had the same one when we had toddlers as well and it was good then too (but we gave it away when our kids were old enough and we thought we wouldn’t need it anymore lol).I had originally bought a gate designed for dogs, made of metal, but the supports for it took up literally half of the doorway, making it hard to fit through. So I returned it and bought 2 of these. This gate lets me have the full doorway to fit through. And it’s easily portable if you’re not needing it secured to the wall. Once secured, it works well as a swing gate.It is a bit hard to undo the lock on the handle, so that’s the only down side. Still a great gate, especially for the price!
